Q: How can I get my private key after switching to non-custodial mode on Blocto Wallet?
A: After switching to non-custodial mode, you will receive your private key in an encrypted JSON file in your registered mailbox. Here are the steps to access your private key:
1. Save the content as pure text:
JSON refers to the content of the text file. To get your private key, you can simply copy all the content starting from "{" and ending with "}" into the text file and save it as a pure text file (.txt).
Use a text editor to save the file as pure text, without all the font size, font face, and other formatting options. Editors like Word, OpenOffice, and Google Docs won't work, but Notepad is okay for this task.
2. Use tools like Metamask or Myetherwallet to load the Keystore JSON file:
Once you have saved the content as pure text, you can use tools like Metamask or Myetherwallet to load the Keystore JSON file. Enter the recovery password you’ve set previously to decrypt the Keystore. The recovery JSON and recovery password together will give you access to your private key.
3. Get your private key:
Once you have successfully decrypted the Keystore, you can access your private key. Please note that this process is for those who want to control their accounts programmatically and use the private key directly in their programs.
For normal users, this process is not required. The encrypted recovery kit is also stored in the Blocto service. If you lose your device and need to recover your account, use the recovery password that was set while switching to non-custodial mode. Enter the recovery password into the Blocto app, and your account will be recovered.
Please note that Blocto will not be able to restore your account for you if you lose access to or forget your recovery password. It's important to keep your recovery password safe and secure.
